Oil Spill
Sterling Silver, Ammolite, Peridot, Mozambique Garnet
The feature gemstone in this piece, the fossil Ammolite, kept calling me to do a story that dealt with our stewardship of natural resources, specifically fossil fuel. When the BP disaster happened in April, 2010, I was prompted to make a piece that depicts that event, calling out for awareness.
The Ammolite’s surface reminiscent of oil floating on water, is almost too beautiful for what it symbolizes in this piece. Reticulated silver at the base depicts it better.
