Circle Economics
It pains me to see someone take a nice rectangle of silver sheet and just punch a disc out of the center without thinking about maximizing the silver around it. I mean really... there is a whole lot of valuable stuff there that really isn’t “scrap”.
Here I have taken a 2 3/4+(smidge)” x 6” piece of 26 gauge sheet (about $55 worth) to make a bunch of earrings. How much inventory do you guess...
15 pairs of earrings and a Charcoal Cast pendant!
Everything from large hoop hammered earrings to tiny button post earrings can come out of one sheet.
The trick? Easy. Make use of every inch.
1.Start with the large discs.
2.Cut inner holes and put aside for smaller or compound earrings. (tip: for matching hoops cut two discs at the same time)
3.Cut odd shapes (tears and rectangles) out of the “no-mans-land”.
4.Cut the tiniest circles off of the edge trianges for button post earrings
5.Chop up the rest for melting into a Charcoal Cast.

maximize your silver with your disc cutter
What might be considered “scrap” in that no-mans-land between disc holes can actually make some nice jewelry!

What is left that resembles a fragile swiss cheese is even cut into smaller pieces and weighed for Charcoal Casting or Lost Wax.
